KD2DC On The Front Page Of The Washington Post Sports Section
Think DC is all in on this? The Washington Post has a picture of Kevin Durant in a Wizards jersey holding the NBA championship trophy on the front page of the sports section. That’s not a blog, that’s a world renowned newspaper. That’s where DC is at with this. KD still has all of next season with the Thunder and then will have to make a decision about where to go as a free agent. So we’re talking about 18 months from now, but the city of DC is campaigning harder for Durant’s return than to repeal Obamacare, amiright folks?
Of course, this is all because Durant is playing in DC against the Wizards tonight. Fans are having KD2DC parties, making signs to bring the game, the whole nine. It’s mayhem. And I really do see the credence behind it. DC basketball fans are starved for something like this. The whole Gilbert Arenas thing didn’t quite work out, to put it lightly. No NBA title in 40 years. And the current team is built to win, but needs one little piece to put them over the top. Is that piece KD? Well yea, almost any team is a KD away from winning. But in an NBA where everyone wants to build that “super team”, a John Wall-Bradley Beal-Kevin Durant trifecta would be the most dominant the league has ever seen. That’s why DC is going crazy over this.
PS: I’m often asked what I will do if he doesn’t come here. Thing is, it would suck, but that’d mean we signed a guy like Al Horford, Kevin Love, DeMar DeRozan, Chandler Parsons, Brook Lopez, or Dwight Howard instead. They will have the money to sign one of those top free agents in 2016, everyone just really, really wants it to be Durant (obviously). The good news is whoever they sign in 2016 will be the piece that puts this team over the top, alls just hoping it’s KD returning home.
